Village of Lansing
Highlights of 1999

The Village Board of Trustees has continued to devote great effort towards the creation of intermunicipal systems.

  • Water
Within three months an intermunicipal agreement will be approved combining the Bolton Point System with the Cornell and City of Ithaca systems to be managed by Bolton Point.

  • Sewers
Good progress is being made towards an agreement combining the Ithaca and Cayuga Heights Waste Water Treatment Plants into a single system, which should be in place by year's end. John Bailey is the Village representative to this planning group.
  • Roads
The North Triphammer Road reconstruction project, 80% funded by New York State, will start construction in 2001. The intersection of Uptown and Warren Roads will have a new traffic light funded by the County, Cornell, and the Village. Tops will fund a light at Graham Road and replace five other lights.
  • The Board has placed a high priority on pedestrian needs. The sidewalk on Sheraton Drive has been completed.
  • Other Issues
The Greenspace Advisory Council has been formed and is active. Deer management has included controlled bow hinting on the Murray Estates property. Non-lethal methods continue to be explored. The Time Warner Franchise Fee Account has finally been paid to the Village with interest; they will offer digital TV soon.
  • Comprehensive Planning
All candidates are committed to maintaining the character of the Village. To this end, the Village has hired the firm Environmental Design and Research to develop a plan for low traffic commercial districts we can be proud of.
